LEADER Project: Core Castle Landsberg (2017)

The oldest part of Landsberg Castle boasts a mighty polygonal tower (11th century). Around it a ring wall was built which confined the castle in the west.

The project plan referred to the archaeological excavations that took place in 2015 and 2016 in the courtyard area to the west of the tower. The rich finds from this area were used to study the history of the castle’s development as well as to further determine the phases of its use. Through the analysis of the find material, an essential part of the archaeological heritage of the Schilcherland was analyzed and evaluated for the first time. Also, from the recorded data, a document brochure was created which conveyed the new findings as well as the added value of the project. Furthermore, the first public display of the most important finds satisfied a heart’s desire for all interested parties.
